Happy Birthday Jonah!

Jonah is 4 years old! His birthday was Saturday. I keep looking at those long eyelashes. On Sunday he was doing an "art project." When I came downstairs his eyelashes were trimmed down to nothing. Oh, Jonah Bug. We love you - eyelashes or not.

Rub A Dub Dub. Three little people in my tub.

Walmart Shoes

These Lightning McQueen shoes make me smile. The boys like them too. In the Walmart Parking lot, someone set up a fun zone with those huge blow-up slides and jumping houses. There were 6 total and no lines. The boys' favorite was the "Candy Land Castle". Jonah found a ladybug and carried it around with him. When I saw him going up the ladder to the big slide, I didn't know how he would deal with his ladybug friend. He sat down and gently placed his friend next to him on the slide. Then Jonah took off. He kept his eye on the ladybug and turned frantic when he realized his friend wasn't sliding down too. Jonah flipped over to his tummy and desperately reached up for his ladybug. Jonah didn't have a chance. Those slides are STEEP. His ladybug didn't have much of a chance either. While watching the oncoming traffic of slide goers, I'm pretty sure I witnessed the little bug's final moment. I didn't tell Jonah about it. He went back up and looked for the ladybug. Seth, Jonah, and Violet were filthy, exhausted, and hungry when we pulled into the driveway late Monday night. I haven't had the heart to tell them that we probably won't see the "new park" again.

Seth surprised me with this letter after he saw the last post. This is the first letter he's done for me. I gotta love it!

Outer Space

Seth and I were talking about numbers and how they go on forever. He likes that numbers can get bigger and bigger on the number line and there is no end. A few minutes later, he made a connection. "Mom, numbers are like the universe because the universe has no end. It keeps going and going." What a wonderful connection. I love this concept of "no end". It's quite spiritual.

On Friday while we were driving to school, Seth asked questions about the sun. He wanted to know why the light from a light bulb doesn't make water evaporate, but the sun does. Obviously, he got this from school. So I talked a little about the heat from the sun. I never feel qualified enough to answer these questions. I'm glad we always have the internet just a click away to get more info. Then he wanted to know how the sun got its heat. Ummm... the big bang or nuclear physics. I don't know. I'm glad he is learning things that encourage him to think and ask questions.

During his outer space unit, Seth came home and told me about Pluto. He said Pluto is a dwarf planet and is going out of our solar system. He then started to cry and said, "I won't be able to explore Pluto." I comforted him and tried not to make my giggles too obvious. I don't know too much about it, but I guess Pluto may be coming back into the solar system anyway and could be made an official planet again.

P.S. I finally looked up Pluto. It's all a definition debate. Seth thought Pluto was literally leaving the solar system. He had me convinced as well! I can't believe how sad he was over it. He was so cute.

Seth is such a big kindergartner. We just received the date for his kindergarten graduation - June 4th. I can't believe how fast it has gone. He told me today that he wanted to look at the Lewis website. So I took his picture and did this post for him. He will LOVE it. I'm getting into this blogging thing. I looked up Aja Eyre and found her blog. It is amazing, of course. I didn't read too much of it, but I could tell she really tries to go with her kids ideas and not hold them back. Her little Ana (6) had this really cool lemonade stand and made some good money. Ana had to pay her parents back for the supplies, pay tithing, and pay some employees (little friends) she had. How cool is that?

Newport Beach

A few more...

I'll start at the beginning. Saturday morning we went to a baptism in Vegas. The baptism was for my friend Tessie's husband. It was amazing to see him make that choice and for us to know that it wasn't easy. How inspiring to see him be baptized and think that he must truly love God and want to be in His church. All the children were able to go up to the front on their knees to watch the ordinance. Kyle explained to Jonah that Grandpa baptized him when he was 8 years old. Jonah asked, "The guy that lives at Granny's house or Grandma's house?"

After the baptism we headed off to California....beach or bust. With Violet in the car, it was almost a bust. Kyle made the drive fun for the boys with surprise treats. He told them that every hour he would unveil a special treat. Kyle wins most popular parent once again. He was pulling out donuts, cupcakes, hostess pudding filled pies, and all kinds of garbage that made me cringe. Jonah was actually upset when we gave him the last treat and told him we were almost to the hotel. The boys were already talking about the drive home. Seth was convinced that Dad would have the same treats (for the drive home) but just mix them up. Seth also wondered during the drive, "Do they speak a different language in California?"

After we checked into the hotel, we went straight to the beach. I intended for it to be a small visit with timid wading and no messes. Oh well. You can't enjoy the beach without the freedom to splash and roll in the sand. How could I take that away from them? We should have stripped them down to their superhero underwear to begin with! The boys found a few treasures: starfish, crabs, shells, and seagull feathers. They were in heaven. I have to admit that feeling doesn't go away even as an adult. I love the beach! It was so fun to see all the beach houses and remember staying there as a kid with the Nielson family for two week time slots every other summer. I was a die hard beach girl and didn't mind getting slammed by the waves. Those were the days.

On Sunday we went to my brother's baby blessing (Eric and Melissa). It was a beautiful blessing and fun to see them. Baby Ella didn't make a peep the whole day...only during her blessing. She is super sweet and so is her sister Lilly.

It was a great trip!

Welcome to our blog! I have been thinking about how blogs are a fabulous way to journal or scrapbook for the family. I need a way to remember the funny things the kids do and say.

My parents tell me about the time when I was really little, and I was upset with my dad. We were in the car and he had a Big Gulp like always. Fraught with worry, I told him to "Not drink and drive." I also hear funny things about Kyle. When he was 2 or 3, he told his mom, "We isn't babies." He did NOT want the smaller cup and plate he was given at dinner.

I'm really excited to have this blog. Now I have a really cool way to record these little moments.

The boys had fun making robots out of boxes. I was really laughing when Seth fell over.

Yesterday morning Jonah was pretending to be Spiderman. I heard him singing this "Popcorn Popping" song. "I looked out the window and what did I see? A bad guy looking at me."
